Video showing mother torturing baby girl sparks outrage

Riyadh : Footage showing a woman torturing a baby girl has sparked nationwide anger in Saudi Arabia in the past 24 hours.
The disturbing videos were published by senior Saudi officials on Twitter and made headlines on several publications and news websites in Saudi Arabia and the GCC.

In the video, the baby is seen helplessly crying while being strangled, smacked on the head and even thrown on the ground by the woman.

The matter became Saudi Arabia's top Twitter trend with around 60, 000 tweets in less than 24 hours. Online news sites claimed that the woman is the mother of the child and that the incident took place in Saudi Arabia, based on the speech heard in the video.

However, no solid information was available on the identity of the woman or the place where the ruthless incident took place.
Saudi Human Rights Commission Spokesperson Mohammed Al Mo'adi said in a press statement that Commission Head Bandar bin Mohammed Al Aiban has directed to take the necessary procedures into the incident.

Additionally, Labour and Social Development Ministry Spokesperson Khalid Abalkhail said the Domestic Violence Reports Centre received numerous notifications on the incident and that it has immediately responded.

"The centre is now intervening and we request the security authorities to urgently provide the Social Protection Unit with the details of the case. Anyone with information related to the incident should report it to 1919," Abalkhail said on his Twitter account.
