Clever dog survives raging Greek wildfires hiding in an oven

This is the miraculous moment a dog was found alive in a cooking chamber after wildfires burnt down a Greek town last week. Artemis Kyriakopoulou discovered the fragile pooch, who had been protected by the outdoor oven while the surrounding forest area was razed, on Thursday. Gradually, the dog emerged from its hiding spot to meet rescuers and soon began wagging its tail knowing that it had been saved.  Kyriakopoulou shared the footage from the coastal town of Mati, near Athens, on Facebook, writing:

‘We found this creature in a furnace of a burnt out house at an area of Mati that has been completely destroyed,’ she said.

‘The dog was burned, hurt, hungry, and of course scared as we managed to save him and his sibling who was in a better condition.

‘They have been both transferred to a vet.

‘The second dog that is not shown in the video was patiently awaiting his owner at the entrance to the house.

‘Please help us to find their owners if they are still alive.’

Despite looking weak, the dog remarkably was said to be in good health. Kyriakopoulou added how ‘hundreds of animals’ are expected to have perished in last week’s blaze that has claimed the lives of at least 91 people. It comes just days after a dog photographed desperately clinging to a rock in the sea was reunited with owners after the image went viral.
