Harper sets new World record in rip-roaring round of drag racing at BIC
Rob Harper set a new World record in a rip-roaring third round of the 2018/2019 Bahrain Drag Racing Championship, held last week at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in Sakhir. Competing in the Outlaw 6-Cylinder category, the American posted a time of 6.582 seconds during qualifying to reset the World mark for fastest GTR. Harper set the new standard with an ultra-quick pass down the quarter-mile at a top speed of 373.82kph.
Harper was a member of the Alpha Logic team from the UAE. He was one of a total 152 participants from all over the globe who took part in the meeting, which featured intense battles over 15 categories for both cars and motorbikes. Unfortunately for Harper, his new record could not translate into a victory the following evening on Race Day. Jassim Ali Al Ali claims that honour by winning the Outlaw 6-Cylinder finale.
Another big winner was Hani Hussain, who enjoyed a fantastic double with wins in the Pro Mod and Index 8.5 classes. Hussain beat Saad Saleh in the Pro Mod final, registering a pass of 4.083s while Saleh’s mark was 4.153s. Then, in the Index 8.5 division, he had a time of 8.558s in the final round, defeating Jassim Mohammed and his time of 8.865s. Ali Abdulla won the Street 4 and 6 category with a time of 9.263s. He beat Mohammed Al Jlahma, who had a time of 9.732s. Bader Dashti won the Outlaw FWD class. He had a pass of 8.405s, beating the 8.928s of Jassim Ali.
