Mout Agung erupts in Bali

Flights have been canceled by Bali’s Airport following the eruption of the Mount Agung volcano, which became active in 2017, after almost half a century of lying dormant.

The national disaster agency reports Friday’s eruption to have last around 4 minutes and 30 seconds, resulting in lava and incandescent rocks being spread in a 3km radius from the crater.

Nine villages experience thick ash fall. An area of 4km radius around the crater has been marked as the exclusion zone, and the agency reported that they will not be raising the alert level for the volcano.

Volcanic ash has caused flights in and out of Bali to be canceled owing to volcanic ash.
