997,846 pilgrims arrive in Saudi

The number of pilgrims who have so far arrived in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj rituals from abroad through air, land and seaports, stood at 997,846 pilgrims, according to statistics issued by the Directorate General of Passports. The directorate said that the number of pilgrims arriving by air stood at 943,410 pilgrims, by land 44,078 pilgrims and by the sea 10,358 pilgrims.

In the meanwhile, Makkah municipality has recruited 23,100 workers to implement its Hajj programme, with Makkah Mayor, Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Quwaim, stating that the authority had also procured temporary health monitors and a large fleet of equipment and machines for the holy period. Makkah Municipality is also monitoring municipal facilities in and around the Holy City, such as roads, tunnels, lighting, and drainage networks, working with contractors to ensure high-quality service delivery.

The plan covers 58 tunnels, 39 control stations, 66,935 lighting units, 599 ventilation fans, 42 electric generators, 40 water pumps, and a high-pressure fire-extinguishing system. Additionally, 13,250 cleaners have been assigned to Makkah, with equipment such as compressors, dumps, Bobcat equipment, and vacuum cleaners assigned to the group. Cleaning teams will be present 24 hours a day in various shifts, with central teams also created to manage crowd control in cases of rain or fire.
