Dead whale spotted off northwest coast
Seafarers have been warned after a dead whale was found floating in the waters off Bahrain’s northwest coast yesterday. A warning was circulated by the Interior Ministry stating that the carcass is floating near “Fasht Marwah”. Various media reports said that the whale was 40-feet long, which was found five nautical miles northeast of Diyar Al Muharraq.
The Coast Guard Command warned seafarers not to sail in the area for their safety. The command said that it had made necessary arrangements to remove the dead whale from the waters in co-ordination with the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE).
Carcasses of many sea creatures including whales, dolphins, turtles and more have washed ashore on the Kingdom’s beaches, alarming environmentalists and nature lovers. They have been urging the government to immediately implement strict measures to protect the marine wealth.
