‘Co-operation key to global peace’

Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Fawzia Zainal, has affirmed that Bahrain, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, believes in the importance of international co-operation as an essential prerequisite for global stability. She pointed out that the Kingdom backs every international efforts aimed at promoting peace and harmony on the basis of respect for the international law and the noble human values aiming to achieve prosperity for the entire humanity.

Speaking during the Fourth Meeting of Speakers of the Eurasian Countries’ Parliaments titled “Greater Eurasia: Dialogue, Trust and Partnership”, the speaker stressed that Bahrain strives, through all regional and international gatherings, to spread awareness on the need for concerted international efforts to strengthen the pillars of peace and stability and meet the aspirations of countries and peoples for progress and prosperity.

In this regard, she cited the establishment of the “King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Co-existence” which, she said, reflects HM the King’s sound vision on the importance of supporting co-existence among peoples and cultures, being the basic pillars for peace and stability. The speaker stressed that building regional and international understanding and unifying efforts towards peace are the most effective means to achieve the sustainable development goals, as well as to face the causes of disputes and conflicts.

On terrorism, she stressed that it is among the most serious and dangerous challenges currently faced by the world, as it subverts global security, shakes peace pillars, undermines justice, targets individuals and countries and causes harm to peoples’ present and future, calling on the International Community to assume its role in facing such a threat, using methods and mechanisms that would preserve peoples’ right to life and security. She affirmed that the targeting of Saudi Arabia’s oil facilities constitutes a dangerous and direct threat to global and regional security, peace and economy, reiterating Bahrain’s full-fledged support for sisterly Saudi Arabia in the face of such attacks.

She highlighted the responsibility of Asian and European parliamentarians to intensify their efforts and devise a more effective strategy to enhance Asian-European parliamentary cooperation, develop coordination in combating terrorism, consolidate complementarity and achieve security and stability.

During the same meeting, the First Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council, Jamal Mohammed Fakhro, in his statement, asserted that the recent attacks on oil facilities in Saudi Arabia pose a threat to global energy supplies, as well as to international economic stability, calling on parliamentarians to rally together against regimes, organisations and groups that exercise terrorism at all levels. He stressed the need to restore confidence in the Middle East and encourage dialogue so as to enhance co-operation among all countries and ensure more progress and prosperity for the region’s peoples.
