Oman participates in FAO subcommittee meetings

The Sultanate's Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries is participating in the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)'s Fish Trade Subcommittee meetings in Spain that continue until November 29.

The session's agendas include several themes, Oman News Agency (ONA) reported.

 In the first day the professional agenda was approved in addition to selecting the drafting committee, overview of the fisheries and aquaculture sectors, role of FAO, International Framework and other related activities, as well as monitoring the implementation of Article 11 of the code of conduct for responsible fisheries (CCRF).

The meetings discussed the FAO information on markets and trade in addition to the fish data network. It also discussed quality and safety of fish and fishery products, small-scale fisheries, post-harvest operations and trade, products legality and transparency from trade perspective, as well as biodiversity conservation and trade.

 The session also discussed recent trade agreements and market access for fish and fishery products, communicating aquaculture to customers and other stakeholders, traceability in addition to  FAO's recent work and the future, social responsibility in fish value chains, as well as trade in fisheries services.
