Nirbhaya case: Supreme Court dismisses convict's plea

The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed the review petition of one of the death-row convicts, Akshay Kumar Singh, in Nirbhaya Gand-rape and murder case.

A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court reviewing the plea filed by one of the four convicts, Akshay Kumar Singh, dismissed his petition for leniency in judgment.

The bench observed that there was no error in the judgement of trial court, Delhi HC and the apex court convicting the accused and awarding death sentence.

Asha Devi, mother of the victim, expressed her relief after SC's verdict and said,"I am very happy."

The convict, Akshay Kumar Singh, also sought liberty from SC to file mercy petition to which SC said that he is entitled to file mercy plea within the stipulated time period fixed under law.

Seven years ago on the night of December 16, a 23-year-old physiotherapy intern was savagely gang-raped in a moving bus and left for dead on a Delhi street.
