Saudi prosecution: Five people sentenced to death over Khashoggi’s murder
Following up on the previous statements issued by the Public Prosecutor on October 19, 2018, October 25, 2018, November 15, 2018 and January 13, 2019 regarding the murder of Saudi citizen Jamal bin Ahmed bin Hamza Khashoggi, the Public Prosecution stated that it has concluded its investigations and due process in this case.
The case included 31 individuals, 21 of whom have been arrested, and ten summoned for questioning without arrest since there was no basis for their detention, the prosecution said, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
“The investigation yielded the indictment of 11 individuals in this case and the filing of criminal charges against them in the Criminal Court of Riyadh. The Court rendered its decision regarding the 11 individuals who were indicted and charged as follows:
1- capital punishment for five individuals for committing and directly participating in the murder of the victim.
2- different sentences amounting to a total of 24 years in prison for three individuals for their role in covering up this crime and violating the law.
3- the Court dismissed the Public Prosecutor’s charges against three individuals and found them not guilty.
“The Public Prosecution did not file charges against ten individuals and released them due to insufficient evidence.”
The Public Prosecution said it would review the Court’s verdict and would decide whether it would file an appeal at the Appellate Court.
