Weather: Thick fog covers parts of UAE, poor visibility warning issued

Police urged motorists to drive carefully and reduce speed to 80kmph.

 

Motorists were urged to take caution as thick fog covered many parts of the country on Monday morning, bringing visibility to less than 1,000 metres.

On Monday morning, National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued a fog alert and Abu Dhabi Police urged motorists to drive carefully and reduce speed to 80kmph.

NCM warned about fog formation and poor visibility over internal and coastal areas.

Meanwhile, police reduced speed limit on Abu Dhabi - Al Ain, Abu Dhabi - Dubai and Al Ain - Dubai roads, as long as weather conditions remained unstable.

The police asked motorists to follow its messages sent via social media, which will help them stay updated on new alerts and prepare for hazardous weather conditions. Motorists have also been urged to monitor weather forecasts.

Police called upon motorists who encounter minor accidents to stop their vehicles on the right side of the road, to ensure their safety and prevent disruption of traffic.

Moreover, flight operations at Abu Dhabi International Airport weren't affected on Monday morning.

There was "no significant impact" in operations at the airport, an Etihad spokesperson
