Heavy rains kill at least 11 people in Pakistan

 Pakistan

Officials said, today, Saturday, that at least 11 people have died due to heavy rains, which caused severe damages in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, northwest Pakistan.

Timur Ali, a spokesman for the Regional Disaster Commission, said that eight children were among those who had died in the region.

Another 22 people were injured during the rains that continued over the past two days, and resulted in damage to 38 houses and buildings in a school.

He said most of the deaths occurred after roofs collapsed from mud-built homes in rural areas.

The Pakistani Meteorological Authority said that heavy rain is expected at the weekend in northern regions and has asked the authorities to take precautionary measures.

More than a hundred people had died earlier in January, in the heaviest rains in Pakistan for a century.
