Netherlands reports Corona cases exceed 10,000
The Dutch health authorities said today, Sunday, that the number of confirmed infections with the Coronavirus exceeded ten thousand, adding that the pace of the increase in deaths and those requiring medical care in the hospital showed signs of slowing down.
The Netherlands' National Institute of Health said in its daily report that the number of confirmed infections increased by 1,104 cases, or 11 per cent, to 10,866, while another 132 people died, bringing the total number of deaths to 771.
"As in previous days, the number of hospitalizations and the number of deaths continues to decrease at a faster rate than would have occurred without the applicable procedures," he added.
But the institute indicated that health authorities only apply tests to people who have severe symptoms or health workers, so the true number of injuries is likely to be much higher.
The Dutch government has ordered measures to ensure social estrangement, closing schools and most companies, and banning public gatherings since mid-March.
