India Lockdown impact 25 districts in 15 states report no new cases of coronavirus in 14 days

A nationwide lockdown may have been harsh on the economy, but it has served its purpose of controlling the spread of novel coronavirus. The impact of lockdown is evident from the fact that at least 25 districts across 15 states, which had earlier reported COVID-19 cases had no new cases in the last two weeks.

Union health ministry's senior official on Monday told media that the restrictions imposed on the movement of people during the last 20 days have helped curb the spread of the virus, which is known to transmit via direct contact with an infected person.

The 25 districts who have reported no new case despite having COVID-19 cases earlier are:

  • Gondia in Maharashtra
  • Raj Nand Gaon, Durg, Bilaspur in Chattisgarh
  • Devanagari, Kodagu, Tumkuru, Udupi in Karnataka
  • South Goa in Goa
  • Wayanad and Kottayam in Kerala
  • West Imphal in Manipur
  • Rajouri in J&K
  • Aizwal West in Mizoram
  • Mahe in Puducherry
  • SBS Nagar in Punjab
  • Patna, Nalanda & Munger in Bihar
  • Pratapgarh in Rajasthan
  • Panipat, Rohtak, Sirsa in Haryana
  • Pauri Garhwal in Uttrakhand
  • Bhadradari Kothagudem in Telangana

As per the health ministry data, India has reported 796 additional cases of coronavirus since Sunday, taking the national tally to 9152. The number of deaths since Sunday is 35. At least 857 people have recovered from the virus in India.
