Execution of wrestling player Nawid Afkari

The death penalty was carried out against the Iranian wrestling champ, Naveed Afkari, on Saturday morning.
 
The head of the Supreme Court in Fars Governorate, Kazem Mousavi, said: “The death penalty sentence against Naveed Afkari was executed this Saturday morning after taking legal measures and with the insistence of the family of the murdered Hasan Turkman to implement the sentence.”
 
The Iranian judiciary had issued a death sentence for the 27-year-old sports hero, Afkari, accusing him of killing a security official during a demonstration in the southern Iranian city of Shiraz in 2018,
 
He was charged with 20 different crimes, including "attending illegal gatherings, gathering and conspiring to commit crimes against national security, and insulting the Supreme Leader."
 
His two brothers, Wahid and Habib, were also sentenced to 54 and 27 years in prison, each with 74 lashes.
