USCIS issues policy guidance saying no communist shall immigrate to the US
Washington
The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has issued policy guidance that will bar communist party members from any part of the world immigrating to the US.
The policy guidance says Membership in or affiliation with the Communist Party or any other totalitarian party is inconsistent and incompatible with the Naturalization Oath of Allegiance to the United States of America, which includes pledging to “support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States.”
This is part of a broader set of laws passed by Congress to address threats to the safety and security of the United States, the USCIS said.
The guidance includes an exemption for involuntary membership, such as when someone joins the Party for "employment, food rations, or other essentials of living."
