Kerala, first Indian state, to digitise public education

Kerala has added yet another feather in its cap by becoming the first state in India to have high-tech classrooms in all its public schools. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will announce this milestone achievement officially at 11 a.m. today. Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board, a partner in Kerala’s high-tech mission, expressed its joy in this extraordinary achievement.
The project, funded by KIIFB and overseen by Kerala public education department, is realised by Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE). In achieving this digital step, the state installed a total of 3,74,274 digital equipment in 16,027 schools here. The project, in its first phase, realised 45,000 hi-tech classrooms in 4,752 high schools and higher secondary schools. It also created 11, 275 hi-tech labs for primary-upper primary schools. The digitisation project also utilised funding from local self-government organisations.
