A committee by the Indian government has come out with some astonishing findings. According to the committee, half of India's one hundred and thirty crore population could be affected by a coronavirus (COVID-19) by February 2021.
However, committee member and Indian Institute of Technology affiliate Manindra Aggarwal in an interview with the media said that post-February 2021, the infection rate will drop drastically.
According to the government data released by Monday, the number of people infected with coronavirus in India crossed 75 lakhs.
There has also been a decline in the number of new coronaviruses infected patients in the country after the peak observed in the second week of September. Currently, 61,000 new corona cases are being reported daily in the country, while the number of COVID-19 testings has increased.
According to Manindra Agarwal, thirty percent of the country's population has become infected with Covid-19 by the estimates of the government committee. Going by this rate about fifty percent of the country's population may be infected with COVID-19 by February 2021.
In a serosurvey conducted by the government of India, it is claimed that by September, about 14 percent of the country's population was infected by the coronavirus. However the committee members do not agree with it as they believe that the survey may not have been conducted with the right standards.
During the start of coronavirus in the country, the government of India had set up a 10-member committee of Virologists to find out the correct predictions about the epidemic, called 'Progression of the COVID-19 Pandemic in India: Prognosis and Lockdown Impacts'. The committee has investigated several important points regarding the coronavirus.
According to other findings of the committee, about 26 lakh coronavirus-infected cases can increase every month due to not wearing masks and not following social distancing.
The committee clearly states that all necessary COVID-19 precautions must be taken else half of the country's population will be infected by February 2021.
