The US Office of Special Counsel is investigating President Donald Trump's use of the White House as an Election Day commander centre. It is probing allegations that Trump violated federal law by monitoring the election results in the living room of the White House residence, and later, addressing his supporters in the East Room. He is also accused of using space in the adjacent Eisenhower Executive Office Building - on the grounds of the White House - as a campaign "war room", reports Reuters.

The law -- the Hatch Act of 1939 -- prohibits political activities of federal employees in the White House, except the president and vice president.
