Saudi Arabia launches Yemen peace initiative

Saudi Arabia launched a peace initiative for Yemen yesterday that would reopen Sanaa Airport and ease restrictions on Hodeidah port. The initiative, announced by Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan in Riyadh, includes a comprehensive ceasefire across the country to be supervised by the UN.
Flights would be allowed to and from Houthi-controlled Sanaa to a number of regional and international destinations.
Restriction on the port of Hodeidah would be eased, allowing access for ships and cargo.
Income from the port, including tax and VAT, will go to the central bank in Hodeidah in accordance with the Stockholm agreement. The initiative also includes the start of consultations to reach a political resolution to the conflict overseen by the UN.
Bahrain supports Saudi move to end Yemen war
The Kingdom of Bahrain expressed support for the initiative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia yesterday to end the war in Yemen under the supervision of the United Nations to reach a political solution to the crisis.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs looks at Saudi Arabia’s initiative as emanating from its keenness to stop the bloodshed and suffering of the Yemeni people.
It was also aimed at supporting the efforts of the UN and American envoys to Yemen to help them reach a comprehensive political solution in accordance with the internationally approved terms in the GCC Initiative and the outcomes of the Comprehensive National Dialogue Conference and UN Security Council Resolution 2216.
The Ministry commends the honourable Saudi positions in support of Yemen, notably its constant endeavours to restore security and stability and its humanitarian assistance to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.
