Saudi Arabia has re-opened a 300-year-old mosque after it was renovated as part of Prince Mohammed bin Salman's project to develop historical mosques in the Kingdom.
The Shaikh Abu Bakr Mosque in Al Ahsa Governorate in the Eastern Province was reopened for prayers amid strict precautionary measures, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
The mosque, among the oldest heritage buildings in the middle of the old Al Kut neighbourhood in Al Hofuf, was built of mud, pebbles and logs of palm wood.
The mosque capacity has been increased from 125 worshipers to 166 under the renovation project that enhanced and added facilities.
The mosque included a school that became a beacon for Islamic teachings and attracted students from the Gulf countries, India and Pakistan.
