The UAE’s Ministry of Health and Community Prevention has approved the emergency use of the Sinopharm vaccine against the coronavirus (COVID-19) for children between 3 and 17 years old. The approval follows a trial involving 900 children in Abu Dhabi.
“The decision comes after clinical trials and extensive evaluations and is based on the emergency-use authorisation and local evaluations,” the Ministry said.
The adoption of the Chinese vaccine is within the framework of strengthening the efforts of the Emirates to combat the COVID-19 and emphasising its proactive approach by taking care of the health and safety of the members of the community.
The UAE, which has among the world’s highest immunisation rates, was already providing the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for children aged 12-15.
