3 Israeli police hurt in West Bank car-ramming attack

Three Israeli border police were injured when they were hit by a car in the occupied West Bank on Sunday, police said.

"Preliminary reports of a car ramming attack at Beit Einun. Three people at the scene apparently injured," police said in a statement, referring to a Palestinian village north of Hebron.

The three were members of a border police patrol at the site, the statement added. Patrol members fired at the car but the assailant escaped.

Israeli rescue services said one of the police was "moderately injured" and other two lightly.

Earlier on Sunday, a Palestinian tried to stab an Israeli soldier and was shot dead in the same area, the army said.

The incident is the latest in a wave of violence that has seen nine Israelis, 67 Palestinians and an Arab Israeli killed since the start of October, raising fears of a new Palestinian uprising against Israeli occupation.
