Egypt will inaugurate the first phase of the Ahl Masr Walkway, the mega recreational pedestrian walkway along the banks of the Nile Corniche in Cairo, with three days of celebrations starting Friday, the Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Development has announced.

The celebrations will include recreational sports and cultural activities such as a marathon, a concert, and fireworks.

The first phase of the walkway extends over 1.8 kilometres from Imbaba Bridge to 15 May Bridge.

It comprises 90 commercial units, including restaurants, coffee shops, and stores, in addition to a 434 square-meter open-air theatre that can accommodate 1,240 people, in addition to a marina and parking lots, Ahram Online reported.

The pedestrian walkway is designed to develop the Nile Corniche area, allowing residents and tourists to enjoy the river view, along with the surrounding greenery, the housing ministry said.

The second and third stages of the project are still under construction.

The second phase, 3.2 kilometres long, will extend from Qasr Al-Nil Bridge to 6 October Bridge over 0.8 kilometres, from 6 October Bridge to 15 May Bridge over 1.1 kilometres, and from Imbaba Bridge to Sahel Bridge over 1.3 kilometres.

The third phase, stretching for three kilometres, will extend from Tahya Misr Bridge to Sahel Bridge for 1.9 kilometres, and from Qasr Al-Nil Bridge to Meridian Bridge for 1.1 kilometres.
