Bright future for news agencies thanks to media technological development

Saudi Press Agency (SPA) President Dr. Fahd bin Hassan Al Agran has emphasized the significant potential for news agencies in light of the technological advancements that media outlets are experiencing.

News agencies had anticipated the development and have kept pace with it, Al Agran said during the "Digital Influencers: Media or Advertising" panel session at the Saudi Media Forum 2 in Riyadh.

He said that one goal for news agencies should be to change the negative stereotype associated with them, and to enhance their relationships with other media outlets, building on the rapid pace of change in the media sector.

Al Agran reiterated that news agencies are the key source of news broadcast in various formats, with a significant opportunity in the future to achieve their goals thanks to their geographical coverage and media molds, SPA reported.

He also highlighted copyright issues as a challenge faced by news agencies.

Emirates News Agency (WAM) Acting Executive Director of the News Content Sector Abdullah Abdul Karim said that crises and rumors have helped news agencies regain their natural status.

He underlined the important need for news agencies to identify future goals that can facilitate the realization of set objectives.

Sputnik News Director of International Cooperation Vasily Pushkov emphasized that news agencies use different forms to shape reports with credibility, ensuring they reach the audience without misinformation or rumors.

The second edition of the Saudi Media Forum, launched on Monday, is bringing together more than 1,500 media professionals, academics, and experts from across the world, ministers, and local and international officials to discuss the status and future of the media sector.

The forum iss organized by the Saudi Journalists Association in partnership with the Saudi Broadcasting Authority (SBA).

SBA President and Chairman of the Saudi Media Forum Mohammed bin Fahd Al Harthi said that the forum is being held in Riyadh, a capital that proudly boasts every day achievements, growth, and development, just like the other parts of the Kingdom, striving to meet the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

The vision stipulates human development, capacity building, and encouraging investment. 

Al Harthi said that development is the way forward and that Saudi Arabia is fully committed to shaping its own bright future, hence the theme of forum, "Media in a world that is taking shape."

The first session of the forum focused on "The New Media Generation ... Variables and Opportunities".

More than 100 working papers will be discussed in the two-day forum that will features brainstorming sessions and workshops with the participation of international experts to formulate recommendations on improving media content and suggesting solutions to dilemmas facing the sector.
