Electrician charged with attempted murder in Dubai

A 49-year-old Indian electrician faced an attempted murder charge for allegedly stabbing a compatriot in the abdomen.

According to the forensic report, the stab wound could have been fatal, if the worker was not rushed to a hospital.

J.M is also accused in the Court of First Instance of assaulting another Indian worker by stabbing him in the thigh and consuming alcohol without a license.

The incident allegedly happened on July 17 in their labour accommodations in Jebel Ali.

The two workers said that J.M came to their room in the accommodation.

"He was under the influence of alcohol and got in to a verbal brawl with one of us that soon led to a fight." The defendant was angry because they came to stay in the accommodation.

They followed him to his room and found him sitting on his bed.

He then took one of them (a 30-year-old Indian) by surprise and stabbed him in the abdomen.

The other worker, 23, was stabbed in the thigh as he tried to stop the accused from further attacking the other man.

The electrician fled the place after that.

A verdict is expected on December 9.
