Turkey hands over Syria jihad suspect to Greece

Turkey on Thursday handed over to Greece a man suspected of seeking to join Syria jihadists, though not in relation to any attacks under investigation, a police source said.

The suspect, a member of the Greek Muslim minority living in the northeastern town of Komotini, had been arrested in Turkey on Wednesday.

Aged around 40, the man is believed to have sought to join jihadi fighters in Syria, but was not currently sought in connection to an active investigation, the police source said.

The arrest on Wednesday came as Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras visited Turkey and agreed with Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu to step up efforts to stem the refugee flow to Europe.

One of the men who died in last week's suicide attacks in Paris had registered himself as 25-year-old refugee Ahmad al-Mohammad on the Greek island of Leros in October.
