School in India shut down after teacher asks students to slap Muslim classmate

Authorities in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh have shut down a private school whose teacher encouraged students to slap their Muslim classmate.

Officials stated that Neha Public School was closed because it "did not meet the education department's criteria."

According to authorities, the school's students will be transferred to another local school or a government institution.

The teacher, Tripta Tyagi, was quoted as saying that she is "not ashamed" of her actions.

According to the child's family, he was physically assaulted for getting his times tables wrong.

 A video of Ms. Tyagi ordering her 7th-grade students to slap their Muslim classmate in Muzaffarnagar district small private school became viral on social media over the weekend.

"Why are you hitting him so lightly? Hit him harder," the teacher is heard telling the children, as the boy stands crying.

"Hit him on the back... His face is turning red, so hit him on the back now," she added.

The victim's father removed him from school and reported the incident to the police. He didn't file any charges, though.

Social media users expressed outrage over the video and demanded that the teacher be punished.

The police have registered a case against Ms Tyagi but she has not been arrested.

The charges are bailable.
