Teachers' dance prompts probe in college
The Abu Dhabi College of higher technology, which is affiliated to the Ministry of Higher Education, is investigating two teachers filmed dancing at a fashion show organized by the college to mark the UAE national day.
The college opened the probe after the film went viral on social networks, showing a male and female teacher dancing together at the stage, where the show took place.
The college girls said they shot the film and published it just to show that the two foreign teachers only wanted to interact with the celebration their own way, adding that they did not realize the two were violating teaching rules.
A college statement quoting its director Dr Abdul Latif Al Shamsi said the national day is a great occasion for all Emiratis and expatriates in the UAE and that celebrating this day should conform to national tradition and culture.
"Any behavior that violates tradition by any person is an individual behavior that does not represent the establishment," he said.
"Therefore, the college has decided to open an investigation into this incident…the rush by some to express their feeling for this great occasion should not justify a behavior that which is not compatible with the country's habits and culture."
