Bahrain boasts of free probe unit in ME
Public Prosecutor Dr Ali bin Fadhel Al Buainain said that Bahrain had distinguished itself for being the only country in the Middle East to form an independent investigation unit. Dr. Al Buaineen was referring in his comments to the Special Investigation Unit (SIU), which was formed in 2012 as a result of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry recommendations.
Speaking on the sidelines of a symposium conducted by SIU, he said, “Bahrain had enough courage to establish an independent investigation unit. Our main goal is to please the God and satisfy our conscious and follow our rules.”
He underlined the SIU members’ belief in establishing justice, adding that regulations have been in place to regulate the work of SIU. “It’s clear that there were some of the cases that were investigated by SIU, and some of them were referred for trial. We have officers sent behind bars for torturing inmates. Some of them serving months in jail and others will stay for years.”
